Historic Car Racing Returns with CSRG Charity Challenge, Oct. 5-6
The Classic Sports Racing Group (CSRG) returns to Sonoma Raceway, Oct. 5-6, for the 10th consecutive CSRG Charity Challenge race weekend benefitting the Sonoma Chapter of the Speedway Children's Charities.
Vintage car racing will be front and center in Sonoma with approximately 200 vintage racecars set to grace the road course over the weekend. The event will feature 1950s sports cars and marques like Maserati, Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus and will include several well-known American "Specials" from the Golden Era of U.S. sports car racing, as well as a full array of formula cars, Trans-Am and production sports cars.
The event will feature eight race groups with qualifying and races on Saturday and Sunday slated for the 12-turn, 2.52-mile road course. Tickets can be purchased at the gate and are $25 each day or $40 for a two-day pass. High school and college students as well as military and veterans are admitted free with appropriate identification.
Proceeds from this race weekend will benefit the Sonoma Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities (SCC), the charitable arm of the raceway. CSRG has contributed more than $500,000 to Sonoma County youth organizations through Speedway Children's Charities since 2002.
A proven highlight of the event are the charity rides on Saturday and Sunday. For a $75-$450 donation, depending upon the car chosen, fans can take a thrilling, three-lap ride around the road course in one of some 30 different participating race cars. The Charity Track Rides will begin at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday and always sell out quickly. Pace car rides and checkered flag waving opportunities are also available.
The race weekend will also feature a charity raffle with all proceeds benefiting SCC. Raffle tickets are: $10 each; $25 for 3; and $50 for a 'stretch.' Prizes include a GoPro camera; 2014 Sonoma Raceway season passes and driver-autographed paraphernalia. Raffle tickets can be purchased in the garages, adjacent to the Panasonic Technology Center.
