Nine IndyCar® Series teams completed a one-day test session at Sonoma Raceway on Wednesday.

Thirteen drivers tested the 12-turn, 2.38-mile road course in preparation for the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma, Aug. 22-24. It marked the first INDYCAR test of the year in Sonoma.

Participants included Team Penske drivers Helio Castroneves, Will Power and Juan Pablo Montoya, Target Chip Ganassi Racing's Scott Dixon and Tony Kanaan, as well as Ryan Briscoe (Chip Ganassi Racing Teams) and Charlie Kimball (Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing).

"This morning the team reminded me that I was sitting in the car that sat on the pole here last year, so I knew I better do something," said Kanaan, who took the checkers in Sonoma in 2005. "This track is very good for testing because in one day you can get six different scenarios, from weather, track temperatures and wind, so you're trying to learn as much as you can in all scenarios."

Other participating teams included KV Racing Technology (Sebastien Bourdais and Sebastian Saavedra), Ed Carpenter Racing (Mike Conway), A.J. Foyt Racing (Takuma Sato), and Schmidt Peterson Motorsports (Simon Pagenaud and Mikhail Aleshin).

"This track requires lots of commitment, and it's certainly the most technical track on the circuit," said Power, who has posted three wins in Sonoma (2010, '11 and '13). "If you're good here, you're going to be fine everywhere."

Sonoma Raceway will host the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma, Aug. 22-24.  The weekend will also feature the Pirelli World Challenge and the three series comprising the Mazda Road to Indy.
