Pirelli World Challenge, Mazda Road to Indy Series Round out GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma Weekend
Sonoma Raceway has confirmed the four series that will join the IndyCar Series for an action-packed weekend at the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma, Aug. 22-24.
The Pirelli World Challenge returns to Sonoma Raceway for the fourth consecutive year featuring thrilling 50-minute sprint races, top-notch drivers and no scheduled pit stops or driver changes. The World Challenge is the only North American sports car series featuring a standing start and boasts all the top manufacturer brands from around the world. The weekend will feature GT/GTS practice on Friday, qualifying and race 1 on Saturday and a second race on Sunday.
The weekend will also feature the addition of the three development series included in INDYCAR's Mazda Road to Indy program.
The Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires series returns to Sonoma for the first time since 2010 as part of its 14-race slate for 2014. The doubleheader format will feature a 40-minute sprint race on Saturday and a 60-minute feature race Sunday just prior to the IndyCar race. In addition to Indy Lights, the weekend will feature doubleheader racing on Friday and Saturday in the Pro Mazda Presented by Cooper Tires and Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda series.
