WHAT
The Top the CopsTM program, which enters its 16th season in 2010, allows high school students the rare chance to drag race against uniformed Bay Area law enforcement officers who compete in their patrol cars on the Infineon Raceway drag strip. Both are given practice runs, leading up to a final-round showdown between student and officer.
WHEN
The Top the CopsTM season will run in conjunction with the Wednesday Night Drags program from April 7-Aug. 11. Gates open at 3 p.m., racing spans from 5 p.m.-10 p.m.
WHERE
Infineon Raceway, Highways 37 and 121, Sonoma, Calif., 95476.
OBJECTIVE
To provide a viable alternative to illegal street racing and give teens a safe, legal and controlled environment in which to satisfy their need for speed.
WHO
Participants can compete in Top the CopsTM or Wednesday Night Drags providing his/her vehicle or motorcycle passes a simple technical inspection. All vehicles must have mufflers. Please refer to the rules and regulations at www.infineonraceway.com/youcanrace. Top the CopsTM is restricted to high school students. The weekly event attracts an average of 900-1,200 people (competitors and spectators).
